I live in Upstate NY and was snow blowing and got the tractor stuck. Had to pull it out with the Kodiak. When I hooked up the winch and went to pull the tractor, I heard a pop and the lights on the Kodiak when dim. I could reverse the cable but not pull it in. Every time I try I would hear the POP and the lights would go dim. What I had to do was free spool the cable and spool it the other way. Any ideas? Could it be the switch or maybe snow melted and shorted out the winch. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a short-circuit in your control switch in the "IN" position. I'd guess the shunt is not breaking before the contact hits the positive terminal in the switch.

I'm impressed by your resourcefulness, spooling out the cable and then "reversing" it in to solve your immediate problem. You receive today's McGuyver Award!

NM that was stupid. Well TreeFarmer thanks for the info. After this storm I will take a look at my wire and the switch. God will this snow ever let up....

All too often, that is forgotten Tree Farmer. Wise words that may come back to haunt you if you don't follow them, I'd guess.

I had a simlar prob with mine, I emailed warn and I asked them about this prob and they told me that they had been having probs with their switches. I finally got a new switch out of them. They had also told me that they had been working on a new design on their switch. Hope this helps, Rob

Hey NINman,

Pretty new to this stuff. Just thought i would let you know I remember reading in the manual that came with my A2000 warn that it should only be spooled in the direction it is shipped. Don't know why?? It was a good idea in a pinch. I would just be sure to change it back after you get your switch problem fixed.

Thanks for all the info. I sure will remember to spool that in the correct direction. I email WARN and they want me to check the connections to the seloniod and to check the end housing (on the inside) on the clutch end. See if there is any damage to the teeth or the cam follower. I guess after I get done playing Racqetball with my boss I will start working on the Kodiak. Just after all this snow I wanted to let it thaw out in my celler first before I start messing with the electrical. Wish me luck and I will let you know what I find out.
