I was looking through a popular science magazine(I likes dem purdy pikturz)and saw that lawn boy has come out with 2 stroke lawnmowers that meet EPA standards. They don't meet CARB but I think that eventually it will. There may be a future in 2 strokes. What do you think the chances are of this technology making its way into the atv/dirtbike scene? This may be the indication of a second coming for the 2-stroke!

 

Honda has/had a 2 stroke engine project. The engine put out way less emissions then the standard 2 stroke. But for some reason, I guess they kill the project. I am sure someone else here can give more details about it.

but what i was saying is i have been hearing alot more on direct injection two strokes, polaris uses the ficht direct injection technology from bombarier on there water craft, maybe it will move to atv's in the future, here is a little article on direct injection:

The 4-stroke engine produces lower emissions than a 2-stroke for a number of reasons. They don't burn oil, and they have far better control of the air and fuel flow than a 2-stroke. The new direct injected 2-strokes, however, have reduced this gap by providing precise control of fuel and oil consumption, reducing emissions by up to 80% over conventional 2-strokes. Fuel consumption can also be reduced by up to 33% combined with a 50% reduction in oil consumption, all while retaining the power of a 2-stroke that boaters are expecting. Emission reduction aside, these improvements can add up to significant reductions in operating costs.

Direct Injection - What is it?
Simply stated, direct injection involves injecting a precise amount of fuel into the combustion chamber, in contrast to having "approximately" the correct amount of fuel being drawn in along with the air flow. Also, with direct injection, the fuel is better atomized than with standard 2-strokes, resulting in a cleaner, more complete burning of the fuel

 

there is a company called REV! that is making a 2 stroke like that. its a dirtbike though. i e-mailed them a while ago and asked if they were thinking abotu making a quad and they said its defanetly a possibility if the market is there and we all know it is. so lets hope this new company can get started good and stay in buisiness.

 

I would think they could make a kit that would be "universal fit" for old 2 strokes to be retro fit.
