Classifieds

yes i agree the new classifieds suck.i liked being able to scroll down seeing something that caught my eye then i clicked and there it was. now you have to click say on parts for sale, then you have to determine which actual parts you're looking for. and it's a bigger pain in the butt to list stuff too. cause, if you have more then one type or brand of an item then you have to post it in 2 or more different categories.if i could look at all the categories on each section at the same time it would be easier.
like if you go to atv parts for sale ,then the page opens and theres like 10 different categories for ,engines,suspension,etc....i have to click on each and everyone to look at all of them.there should be a categorie here to view all parts for sale or for all atv's for sale whatever.
most of the time i'm not just looking for something specific i'm looking for anything i might be able to use or of interest.and sometimes i run across a good deal, but now it's not worth the hunt.

If you're looking for one thing specifically, the new classifieds are fine (with the exception of having to click several times to get where you're going), and I don't care for the readability...
However, for someone like me, that may be looking for several things, or not have anything particular in mind, they are now useless....
I can't count the number of times with the old system that I was browsing and something in the caption caught my attention that I didn't even know I was looking for - and yes, I've purchased these items in some cases. That's where this system fails.
Sometimes simpler is better & I think this is a great example.
Besides, with the old system, if you were looking for that special Mojave or maybe Mojave parts in general, all you had to do was click the edit dropdown in your browser, click "find", and type in Mojave - then you'd be directed too all posts with "Mojave" in them - no clicking back and forth thru chassis parts, engine parts, drivetrain parts, etc... No having to setup a special filter - Simple....

Guys,
It's obvious you still don't understand how the classifieds work. So this is my last attempt at explaining!
Okay...you say you can't browse all the ads at once like on the old forums. Click HERE to browse all of the ATV parts in all of the ATV parts sub-categories, at one time. Same as the old system.
Click HERE to view all of the ATVS for sale, in all of the ATV sub-categories, at one time. Same as the old system.
So....quickly viewing all of the parts or all of the atvs at one time is just like the old system. If the complaint is there is one additional click to choose either parts or atvs...well...I don't have much sympathy for that kind of laziness!

Unfortunately, even a asp web programmer like myself didn't take the time to browse thru the "advanced search", "browse ads", etc... And I program systems like this... The average user is going to be far less likely to use such options.
Although the new system seems plenty powerful with many options, perhaps some work on navigation is in order?
Maybe main categories that take you to all listings, with sub categories available if the person chooses to use them - instead of having to go thru the the categories and look for the tiny "browse ads" link to display all, which is kinda non-descript.

Well, you always have the option of setting an "Auto tracker" that will email you whenever someone posts an item you're looking for. And you can set it for multiple items you want to watch for! The email will link right to the item. Again...any way you cut it...you can get at what info you need easily and quickly.
We're not going back to the old software...so it's kind of a mute discussion. But I wanted people to understand that the issue here is not that the forums are worse...it's that they are different. And time and again we've seen people complain when we make a software change and after a month or so we never hear any more complaints about it. When we went to the new forums software we had a ton of people complain. Never hear a bad word about the forums now and in fact people email asking if they can buy the software.
So folks...please spend the time to get to know the software before writing it off as bad. The new classifieds are a vast improvement over the old. In fact, the old software wasn't even classifieds software...it was our first BBS software and we merely used them for classifieds.

Thanks. I think they are the best of both worlds. Someone looking for a Honda ATV can look at the Honda section and see just what they are after. Yet they still have the option of browsing all ads and scrolling through them. Pretty slick.
This is my last post on the classifieds so I'll answer one other question that hasn't been asked by anyone yet. It concerns the new $3.00 posting fee. We originally set the ads up where they were free but if someone wanted to post a photo they had the option of paying $2.00 for the cost of uploading the photo. Non-photo ads were free. Well...we had many people abuse that. They posted their free ad...then in the description said, "email me for photos" or "go to my web site for photos." This created a great deal of additional moderation work for us. And it was a real shame that folks tried to get around the system just to save $2.00. For us, the $2.00 was intended to help offset the cost of the bandwidth, server resources, disk space, etc necessary to provide the classifieds. Our classifieds are BY FAR the largest, busiest ATV classifieds on the net. And we figured those people who wanted to provide pics would pay the $2.00 enabling the non-photo ads to remain free for everyone else. It seemed reasonable, too, that people were getting a great value by being able to display a photo and sell an item for less than a newspaper ad costs them and at the same time make it possible for there to BE an ATV Connection web site (funded by the $2.00 fees we collected for photo ads.)
In any case, all ads now cost $3.00 with or without a photo. It's still a great value and it eliminated the moderation headaches for us where we had to go back and remove the "email for photo" comments. Yes, we know there will be some people who don't value our site enough to spend the $3.00 when they want to sell something and therefore the number of ads might decrease. This is a trade-off we're willing to make in order to keep improving our services for you. EVERYTHING costs money.
I'll forewarn anyone who is thinking about responding to this post and complaining about the $3.00 fee...if you complain about $3.00 you've got bigger problems and we can't help you with that!
For those people who played fair and opted to upgrade their free ad to a $2.00 photo ad rather then bypass the system..on behalf of the ATV Connection and all of the people who enjoy our site--thank you for your support!
