atvs are great for those with a disability

This continues to be one of the best threads I've witnessed.
Thanks to raptoracdc for giving us all some insight into the the kind of people Jeremiah Jones and Bill Ballance are also.
All of these comments prove that this angle on our sport is truly one of the greatest untold stories in it.

John, you are giving me a big head and I can't get a new helmet(wife still upset about the Axis shock). I have been blessed in life. It's hard but, I try not to talk about Bill and Jeremiah unless people ask me something about them. Some think I am boasting. It is not that big of deal to me cause, I knew them long before they raced.

Just to let ya know,
I have been riding.... but VERY little. I have WAY to much snow and have been fighting illness and disability. About the only thing the bike has been doing is plowing the drive.
I have changed the "hook" on the front winch to a clip so that it doesnt come off the plow every time i let the plow down and i hit a bump. I also think i will like it just as much when i am winching out in the summer months as well.
The wife and i are talking about moving to Florida in the winter months starting in 2004. She will graduate August 2004 and we will be looking at moving then. Looking at maybe moving around the Tampa/St. Pete area.
Anyone know of good riding around there? or recommend an area to live for riding down there?
Thanks!
OH YA> the reason for moving is..... need to get out of the snow so that i can enjoy more of the year and get outside more often and play. I have cabin fever WAY to often right now. I only have to do this one more winter......and what a long winter it will be.

Frogman, come to Arizona!!
I live near Prescott, 4700 ft elevation, 4 inches of snow that melts quickly, never have to plow!!! Three national forest within 5 miles with great riding... Winters are great--i'm riding in a tee shirt this morning... We did get some rain which makes mud which...but the atv has sure helped. Basically a dry healthy climat.
FYI, I got an extended basket from Cabala's for the rear of my Polaris that I can put my chair on either facing front or sideways and still have room for some gear. I put a large bag on the front and plan to keep as much weight up there as possible. Bottom line, chair stays on while I haul a.. after my three donkeys! Hearding has never been so much fun. I'm getting the hang of bumps and hit them at speed on my 500--ye ha!!! Got to finish some chores...

Thank God for this thread and Bless all of you who have responded as it is of great inspiration!
As a result of a spinal injury I incurred while serving in the Army I was operated on and supposedly "fixed" ,during that same year they also performed 2 operations on my right ear which left me basically deaf in that ear. I was only 21 at the time and being young and stupid I left the Army and pursued work in the constuction field. I lasted about 8 years and my back went out again and not wanting to be cut again I gave it some time and visits to a choiropractor and then decided that it was time to start my own business and leave the bull work to someone else, good idea but poor execution as I could not stay out of the work inviroment. Business was fantastic and flourished but my physical condition went south. Then in 94 I was in a auto accident and that took care of my neck and my Docter said"your done"! The process then began to endure years of exams and being called a liar and fake while trying to secure 100% Disability from SSI and the VA. I finally succeeded in attaining both in 1998. During this process they also discovered that I suffered from disabiling vertigo so in 96 the MVA suspended my drivers license.
Not wanting to give up being able to drive something I bought a BigBear and was totally estactic that I still had a sense of Freedom being able to ride around in the buffer zone of the sub-division that I live in! I have been blessed with meeting a lot of people since I now have to ask for rides to places. My wife being one of the greatest! She took me to a friend of mine's Dealership last fall for an Open House which was great but it was in the back of my mind that I wanted a HotRod and when I walked into the showroom there she was! A white Z400 and it was love at first sight!
I now have her sitting in my garage! I have been slowly modifying her as I would any Hot Rod and it has been one of the most envigerating experiences that makes me forget about the pain and daily dizzy spells! My riding area was expanded as the owner of the industrial ground around our sub-division made an agreement with the sub-division giving any of us that wanted to ride permission to do so on his non developed property! Every time I come back from a ride I have this big Grin on my face that I thought had been taken away! Thank God for Quads and the inspiration from all of you!

Hey guys it is nice to hear that there are others out there that find the frredom that I enjoy also. I was shot in the spine in a hunting accident when I was 11 years old (now 37). Paralized waist down for quite some time have had many operations and am able to walk with braces on both ankles (no feeling or movement from knees down). I use my quad for everything from taken the garbage out to hunting its great.
Is anyone out there using an air shifter on there quad? I have riden bikes with them but have not seen any on quads. I guess that is why the auto trannys are all I use right now. If anyone knows where I could get one I might think about getting a sport quad with a manual tranny.
