Toaster,

You should really try to examine one before buying. I have the chatterbox GMRS, and find that it's not worth what I paid for it.

1. VOX does NOT work for me. I end up having to use a Push to talk switch. This was after upgrading to new radios and new headset/microphone assembly.

2. It's not very waterproof, and cheaply made. The battery cover is flimsy, and I expect it to break soon.

3. GMRS is awesome though!!

I know this isn't a Collett version, but recommend you take a look at it before dropping some change. My chatterbox was 250.

Thanks for the info, i will check your chatterbox GMRS on the net. The Communicator 900 seem pretty tough; they offer a 3 years warranty and in the magazine I have, they wash it with a high water pressure hosepipe... anyone know other similar product?

I have 3 Communiator 900s. I love them. VOX works perfectly as long as you put the mic close. Great range. The only thing that I could see anyone complaining about is the external batteries. Sometimes it's hard to find a pocket or some other place to put the pack. However if you ride in really cold weather you may find that the models that have internal batteries have problems due to cold batteries. I always put the battery pack inside my coat where they stay above freezing.
