snowbuster-
i dont know if your Rancher is like this or not, but... when our Big Bear is in four-wheel drive,i think that only one of the front tires pull instead of both. hope this helps.

I don't think there's anything wrong with your quad... that's just the way most 4WD systems work on ATV's. When one of the front tires slips, the other one stops spinning. Polaris is the only manufacturer that claims to have true 4 wheel drive. This picture doesn't say too much, but it does confirm what I am talking about.

snowbuster, there is nothing wrong with your wheeler. Power is given to the wheel with the least resistance. Unless you add a locker which some of the new atvs have.

i know what you people are talking about. that would be unlooked differentials. mine are locked. besides if that were the case only ONE wheel WOULD spin. istead only ONE wheel WONT spin. thanks a lot anyways. maybye i should have made that more clear. thanks again.

I can't say for sure (I'm no expert), but my guess is that there was still enough resistance in the mud to keep both tires spinning. Once you spin in snow, the snow beneath your tire pretty much becomes ice and is much slicker than mud. Just a guess, though.
