Hand problem
#1
I went wheeling Sunday before last on a friends Polaris and we covered about 25 miles climbing the surrounding mtns. near us. Most of it was pretty rough and we had to put the machines in 4x4. After about 3 hours of riding and we stopped to load them up I noticed that I had lost about 50% of my right hands mobility. It is now over a week and my hand is not much better. It doesn't hurt, there is not any numbness or swelling. It is just hard to get my hand to do anything like button my shirt or even hold a pin. Has anyone ever had this happen to them?

How old are you? Have you had this happen before? Any old injuries to the hand?wrist? Which is it wrist or hand? What do you mean buy no mobility? Are you right or left handed. what type of work do you do? I could go on and on. Many more questions go into evaluating an injury like this. Hope its better by now. Let us know.

To answer some questions about my hand problem. I'm 42, been wheeling off and on for 10 years but mostly trail riding. 2 weeks ago a friend and I decided to go off trails and ride old creek beds and climb mountians with the for wheelers. I guessing that the death grip I used to hold on , the jarring and the heavy use of the throttle is what messed my hand up. I wore gloves and never hit it on anything. I've gained about 90% of the cordination of my hand (My right hand, which had never been injured and is my writing hand) There was no swelling, no discoloration,no numbness or pain! It was like my hand was still in a death grip!

Interestingly enough, I was out riding 2 days ago (riding a little faster and harder than usual), and my right hand was sore, weak.
Just as with runners and there change in activity (ie. distance, speed, terrain) which can cause knee, foot pain etc. Same thing likely applies with us. Even though you've been riding awhile a change in your usual pattern of riding can cause this type of injury. Usually swelling inside around the muscles, nerves etc can cause this.
Ibuprofen, ice, rest will usually resolve problem in a few days, but may return.
