Bing,

Keep in mind when you get to Michigan that there are really no trails in the southern half of the Lower Peninsula. You could ride an area outside Detroit (Mt. Morris) called 'The Mounds' if you wanted to slip in and out; but it definitely is not indicitive of what we have to offer.

I'd probably hit more of the primo areas in Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin (the Hurley area is great) and maybe get a taste of MI. on one of the Upper Peninsula trails before heading south through Chicago to (unfortunately) southern IN.(no northern IN. trails that I know of).

Ideally, you'd skirt the Lake MI. shoreline on the north (US 2; go over 'the bridge') and maybe half-way down the west side(US 31 to maybe Ludington) and take a major highway out from there.

Look up Jiggin' Jack, on here, from Norway, MI.; and ask if he and his (mainly WI.) 'HO' riders might be having a ride at the time you pass through. These guys (if avail.) are capable of putting you on trails you might not soon forget.

Make sure you hit Royal Blue or Windrock(cheaper) in Tenn.; H/M (of course) in W.V. and Wayne National Forest in OH. (Maumee Forest outside Toledo would be more convenient if you're heading east towards PA. out of MI.)

Wish I was going along and glad to be of help.

John

If you have a laptop and cell phone you can have internet access on the road. Depending on your cellular provider and the phone you're using you can have a pretty decent connection. I use Verizon and they offer different packages for internet access using their 3G/1xrtt network which ranges from $30 for a set number of hours of internet to $99 a month for unlimited access... Not exactly cheap but it's something to think about. I know if I was on the road that long I would want my internet.

There is some excellant riding to be had in Alaska. I'm currently looking to buy my first machine to take advantage of it. Plan to use it both for trail riding and for hunting. If you really want to ride in every state, I would come here last because you may not leave.

MiloAK, thanks for the input.

Alaska is truly awesome, and I've been fortunate enough to see quite a bit already. (mostly from the deck of a fishing boat).

I am concerned about not being able to ride in most places (protected lands).

Is anyone familiar with the Alcan Highway/ Yukon area as far as riding is concerned?

this looks like a blast WOW

There are definately some protected lands issues in Alaska and the granola eaters are fighting for more all the time. I know there is still some riding to be done around Knik River, Eklutna Lake, Petersville, Sutton and a bunch of areas that I'm not familiar with. If you have some specific questions in mind I would do my best to point you in the right direction.
