Afew years back Chevy made a SS454 that would out run the first Ford Lightening with a 351 by .2 seconds in the quarter mile. GMC made a Typhoon (a S-10 Blazer) in 93 with a turbo charged 4.3L that was extremely fast. The have been a few fast trucks or "SUV"s over the years.

its to bad the powers that be (our company laywers) don't let the manufacturers build the machines to the fullest potencial, the viper truck will be quite fast as is the lightning, but the sad truth is that the are limeted down to make then "safe for consumers" the vehicles you buy here in the states have rev limiters and fuel cut offs, and there is no sign of any company willing to make an "allout" performance vehicle for US consumers. ps. my GMC 8100 / 5spd auto, k3500 is rated higher for towing than the same diesel powered dodge with auto or 6spd. sorry dodge guys.

You must not know much about diesels. It would take a $4000.00 supercharger and numerous other mods for your 8100 to equal any of the big 3 diesels in torque that only have a chip or fueling box added. Not to mention that in towing the same load the diesels will all get twice the fuel mileage. Been there done that. Learned my lesson on gas burner tow rigs years ago. I can take a diesel up to 900 foot pounds of torque and still use it daily and get decent fuel mileage. The only gas burners that will go that high at the rear wheels are high strung race engines.

zookyrider, doesn't it seem strange that you would have to pay $4000/$5000 extra to buy a truck with diesel option. the 8100 that I have does 11 1/2 miles to the gallon, witch isn't bad for is size. I have worked on numerus diesels and they don't pull any better unless you spend the money ,for what my "stock" GMC has for power is more than enough for me. sure I could spend lots of money and buy a stinky o'l diesel. I only live 7 minutes from work , the engine wouldn't even make enough heat to defrost the windows by the time I got there. I looked up the stock specs for my truck for trailer towing cap. 8100 /auto 4x4 crewcab dually. is rated at 15,300lbs trailer cap. and the stock specs for the dodge dually 4x4 14,700 its not much of a diferance, but when you start talking about modifing it so it can pull more, makes me think that most people would opt for a Freightliner or a Topkick.

I know the diesels out pull the gas engines, no question there. I will not pay $4500 for a diesel, I would not take a diesel if it cost the same. I would take a V-10 in a Ford or a 8.1L in a Chevrolet, wouldn't own a Chrysler product, any one of them. Have owned a diesel. Diesel fuel stinks and anything related to it does too. Can't stand the smell. You fuel up and the stinch stays with you all day. If they cure that a diesel would be a consideration.
