for an 87 lt you could probaly expect 5 hp most likely more from a good port job!for my 86 i can probaly expect 5 at the most, but it will pull insanly hard and have a crazy amount of torque.im sending my cylinder to madman engineering martin knows what hes doing and he has worked with a few companys like duncan racing.check out his site madmanengineering.com

from a known company like lrd, trinity,ct usually around 400 dollars.but some people like ftz, fuel tech, hollywood dirt productions can do it for less than 300...madmanengineering is 300+ but it said to be well worth it,you would pay $500 from duncan racing for a port job like theirs

It is really doubtful that you will end up spending only $400 for a port job. What about a new head, carb, pipe (that works with the specific porting). With the added horsepower you will want to beef up your bottom end, i.e. clutch basket, plates, fibers, and springs...
As you can see, if adds up fairly quickly.

im finding that out the hard way, but if your looking for a port and polish most of the time you allready have the stuff to run it. i have everything excpet a carb and head.but yea to take a stock machine and port and polish it and have it run good will cost around a grand proably depending on where u get ur parts.
