What reason do you have to say I don't drag race?
Sir, I drag race everything I own. I Live to race. Its the same reason I live close to Florida's Gainesville Gator National 1/4 Mile track.
I've been down the 1/4 mile more times than I can count. I've been involved in racing engines since I was 9 yrs old. 22+ years of Experience under my belt.
I've been to Gainesville track on motorcycle and quad night MANY TIMES. These guys race on Pavement, Not sand.
Come out and watch some of the baddest 2 strokes bog off the line and then talk about HP and Torque curves. Watch some of the 10 second banshees have to flair their clutches 2 and 3 times in first gear just to keep the revs up and the motor in the power band.
Racing on sand is a horrible way to judge your power compared to another quad. That throws Traction into the scenario. So He with the most traction sometimes wins.
I've asked my friends from Mustang Specialties to send me some dyno runs of the quads they've tested there for visuals.
lol, Me? Not Drag Race? Oh my god, that's a killer. hehe
Do a search for my name under any search engine and tell me that again. (with or without the space between my name)

I think those guys are geared too tall to be bogging. The thing is to run a 1/4 mile in 10 second range on a wheeler means you are going to be running a VERY tall gear in order to make it. I doubt if a big single thumper capable of running those times could leave the line with so much gearing in first as well. Now add some NO2, a turbo, or other exotic setups and the power might overcome it. But that's just it, a big single thumper would need a power adder to run those numbers. My Banshee runs 11's in the 1/4 (9.9's at over 93 in 1000 feet) and it leaves hard in 1st gear with 1.58 60ft times. But I am not overriden and have all 6 gears, which might help things out too.
I dont know if Beech was directing that statement directly to you or not, I thought it was a general one to some of the others.
By the way, my wife's 330 Honda made an extremely nice flat torque curve spanning a few thousand RPMs to go along with the 53 RWHP.

Here's a quick quad from "Quad Night" that I taped.
Watch the low end bog he gets.
He did manage to launch good 2 or 3 times, but bogging on this quad was a perfect example of a narrow 2 stroke power band.

just an observation: didn't beech say that not all 2-strokes have to have the RPMs up real high and in a very specific range to generate the HP and torque? it's jus a matter of how you build them? also, i think a 10 second 1/4 mile time in sand is much more impressive than on pavement because of the fact that traction comes into play, not to mention sand robs horsepower like a theif in a vault. so it would take much more power and more knowledge to get fast times in the sand than it would on pavement, since it takes more power, and you have to get ur tires set up right. i'm not sure who, but there was a guy at pismo who was doin 87mph at 100yds. from what i understand that will beat a porshe in acceleration. i also understand that acceleration is the name of the game in drag racing, that's why u can win a race with a slower top speed than the guy u beat.

Seems like the dude did not clear out the motor before he left. That may be why it loaded up on him, On my old drag banshee, I had to crack the throttle a few times before launching or it would bog in the sand.
I may be wrong, due to lack of pavement experience.

You are right CroBiker, you can setup a two stroke to not have a narrow powerband. A good engine builder port two strokes
you give you an extremely long and powerful powerband instead of just, say, a violent midrange which would be costly in some
races depending on what you're racing on. There are port configurations for more "all around power" as well as "all around" powerful
pipes like the esr trx 5 pipe that I run. Two strokes don't have to have power only at a narrow RPM range.

Glad to see a few more people are open to the fact that 2-strokes arent just a cliche "powerband" type motor. And that they can and are able to have a nice broad torque and hp curve.
What i meant Mike by the saying, if you dont drag race you wouldnt know any better is because you dont drag race sand. A sand setup and a asphault setup are two totally different animals that i wont get into, but i would go shouting my mouth off saying i know how to set up an asphault bike if i didnt know how to. Much how your telling me im full of crap on some of the things im saying when it comes to sand drags.
Now, im not saying you dont know drag racing in general, but you dont know the drag racing i do, and most important you dont know my bikes, so who are you to say what they can or cant do/make on the dyno.
To the other guy, if your banshee needed to constantly be rebuilt...maybe it wasnt the banshee's fault...
But "Racing on sand is a horrible way to judge your power compared to another quad. That throws Traction into the scenario. So He with the most traction sometimes wins."
Your contradicting yourself. First you say sand is horrible to compare power with because it requires traction. Then you say he with the most traction wins. So if im fast on sand wouldnt i be fast on asphault?
And if your buddies are bogging on asphault they ARENT SET UP!!!! therefor arent efficient drag racers, in which case i dont even know if id consider them a drag racer to speak of.
