I need to buy a new chain for my '86 250R with a -1" swingarm (stock 88-89 length). I've never ordered a chain before, so what size, length, or number of links do I need?

Most dealers that sell chains have a guide that will tell you how many links your chain should have for your model, whatever you ride. They will also (generally) shorten them to fit your -1 swingarm if you ask them nicely. 2-4 links off stock length should get you in the ballpark to where you can adjust it out with your carrier adjustment. Happy roosting!

When it was time for replacing the chains and sprockets on my quads I went with the DID o-ring chain. I'm very pleased with it. The dealer should be able to get you in the ballpark in regards to chain length. You can be off by a little and adjust the quad to fit.

you just go buy a chain, size 520, and break it the length you need it....remember that an o-ring
chain will pull 2-3 hp!!!
