cr500 engine in wat frame??
#62
I haven't read all of the other posts so don't snap if I repeat something already posted. My friend just put a cr500 engine in a Blaster frame. He entended the swingarm himself by 4 inches, took off the shocks and bolted in steel pipe at a level the keeps the frame about 3 1/2 inches off the ground. He did it just because he had the Blaster and the engine laying around. he does swap the steel pipe out with the shocks when not drag racing it. The only prob he has is starting in since the Blaster has so much less room to kick that big motor over.

Well thanks to everyone here I am now about to start working on my TRX500R. If there is any helpful hints about postioning the motor correctly to get a straight chainline any other hints that a first time builder might appreciate please feel free to pass them along here or to my email inbox. granturismonut@hotmail.com Thanks in advance you guys are the reason I've decided to keep this project alive...

My 500 will start second kick everytime usually, have to first kick followed very quikly by second and it fires right up. If I do slow kicks I could kick it over all day and It wont fire, I have the motor being ported for race gas by K&T so my compression is going to be up also, I hope it doesnt get alot harder to kick over

I just completed the tranformation and have some pictures of what I did to mod the frame. It does vibrate but I don't think of it as bad. I cut the two frame rails out, the one that are used for the 250r bottom mtr mount, and welded in 1/4" thick piece of steel. I made a mount kind like c channel for the bottom and place rubber under it to prevent vibration. The front mounts are made of 1/4"x1" steel with rubber and polyurethane end link bushings sandwiched between for more vibration reduction. The rear mount slid onto the swing arm bolt. The engine needs to be slid as far possible to drivers left for proper chain angle. The reason I cut the rails was to lower the front of the engine. It shoul sit so that the "Honda" on the clutch cover is level, for proper tranny oil level. Lowereing also helps in being able to remove the plug and cap with the tank on. I still had to shim the tank and bend it using heat ( be carefull of fule vapors). I have yet to make a top brace. The CR500 has two water outlets on top of the head, both 5/8". I ran to lines to a copper "t" with a 90' elbow and some barbed fittings to connect to the radiator. I haven't been able to ride it hard yet, new top end, but so far so good as far as over heating (it's also been cold here). If you need more help please feel free to email me, or if you have any better ideas for anything let me know.

Sorry, forgot, the pipe came with my engine but the guy made it using a FMF fatty for a 250r. He cut the flange from a Quadzilla. The rear tubing was too small so he cut it off. He then installed larger tubing (same as cr500 since the silencer is a 500). It uses a CR500 silencer. I have yet to figure out which year silencer since it does not match any pictures for CR500 I have found, but it is a DG.
