k&n filter, hmf pipe, and jets are the only thing i've done to mine and it's so much more powerful in the bottom-mid range.

Without wanting to go big bore. . you could always have the head ported and polished. . that will make a huge difference and depending on who you know. . shouldnt' cost that much. . especially if you know how to at least take the head off and put back on yourself once the port work is done. other than that. . yeah. . pipes and jet kit. good luck

With out port and polish experience you could ruin the head and you dont want to do that.. It pays to have someone how has done alot of porting work to do it for you.. You wont be dissapointed..

First thing to do is pipe, jet, filter mods. Then if you still want more you could add the port and polish as stated, and/or a cam mod, and/or a rev box.

Go to HMF's website and they have a scratch and dent section where you can find pipes for a 400ex for cheap.. The only thing wrong is there are small blemishes in the powder coat.. Just a thought...

Remove the airbox lid and install a bigger main jet. If you still want more get a pipe. Those are the most common mods.

Then a cam, carb, porting, cdi, and big bore.

My friend has a FMF pipe, stage 2 hotcam, 39mm FCR carb, no airbox lid. These mods work very well. He needs a cdi/rev box.
