Can someone please tell me what the comprssion on a 2000 stock banshee should be and how to check it?

 

should be around 130 each...compession gauge...it screws in where the spark plugs sits on the head...

 

Screw compression gauge into plug hole. With ingnition off, throttle wide open, kick until you get the highest reading. I usually get my highest reading after 6 kicks. You can get different readings so try it more than once.
I've got compression of 150 with a Vito's .080 piston and 19 cool head domes. Had 140 compression with a stock piston. This is at 5000 ft.altitude. Have to run race gas but it's worth it. Stock compression at sea level is 130psi. at 5000 ft. it's 100psi.

 

Your reading will be different to if you take it on hot motor, or a cold motor. Mine was 140 cold, and 128 hot. Not on a stock quad though. The Banshee manual has a lot of good information in it also, not the one that comes with it. The Yamaha book that is $40.

 

I have run compression checks on three different stock banshees so far in the last 6 months. All were right around 120 psi. This is at 1000 ft elevation and on cold motors.

This was also with two different gauges (just in case). You can get a compression gauge from auto parts stores for around $30. It should be in everyones toolbox... Just kick the heck out of your motor with wide open throttle. Your looking for the maximum pressure that you can manage. It usually takes me about 20 hard kicks. The guy above that does it in 6 kicks must have legs of steel!

 

Pull both plugs. It makes the kicking easier.
