the key is doing all the work yourself. I am relitevly new to atving and reparing machines but I have found that there is absoululey nothing to a 2 stroke motor, you CAN do it yourself. I never thought Id be able to tear those suckers down and rebuild them..... then I looked around... half of the atv repair shops around here are totall dumbasses.. crosseyed inbred hicks.. I said what the hell if they can do it I can do it. I have found that most do not have a clue. I talked to some guy that paid $850 to get a new topend in a blaster.. probally an hours worth of work and $125 in pieces.. Buy a book and do it yourself. A 2-stroke will break, get use to it. but if you have ever worked on a 4-stroke you will understand that it is peanuts workin on a 2up. First wheeler rebuilding was my banshee, Ive torn it TOTALLY apart 3 times now and each time it gets easier and easier.. When you get your wheeler fixed at a shop 90% of your money is goin towards labor 10% on parts. Do it yourself, you know its done right, and you save 90%. another good thing about rebuilding it yourself is when its all taken apart you can clean all the pieces and make it "showroom" mechanics and dealers do not scrape greese. :-)

i paid around $250 to have my banshee's top end rebuilt, bored 20over with wiseco pro lite pistons and cometic gaskets. i took him the motor witht the cylinders off and pistons off he gave it back all together ready to put in the frame. it was a small shop, but how could your friend pay 800 or whatever for 1 cylinder?? he got ripped off really bad.

I would say clean your air filter change the crank case oil and run the most oil to gas ratio you can,

I was ripped off by a local shop also. I had a CT Racing 310(actually a 295cc) Kit that sheared off the intake side of the sleeve's skirt. Took it to a local that was HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to be resleeved. After three months and $675, I put the complete motor into the chassis and rode it about one hour(after completing breakin). SHE SEIZED!!! Same carb settings as before--so I took the cylinder off. Guess what, the sleeve was 5mm OFF CENTER AND THE PORTS WERE NOT RADIUSED!!! He said that he sent it to LaSleeve to match the ports....NOT! After being out $$$$, I will do all my work myself too. My current motor(that I built) is running a Honda '89 cylinder and Pro-X pistons--if I lost ANY HP from the CT Kit, I sure can't tell it! As for engine life, a good synthetic premix and CLEAN INTAKE AIR, seem to go further in helping prolong engine life. I use Klotz R-50 mixed at 32/1 with a Dura Blue dual stage foam filter oiled with UNI foam filter oil. Love the smell of that KLOTZ!!

heat cycles...

do 3-4 idle cycles allowing the motor to totally heat up..and let it cool down to dead cold in between. they ride it slowly and not revving it for 3-4 times, allowing it to fully cool in between. again, 3-4 times of somewhat revving it, then 3-4 times of short bursts of speed..

thats how I do it anyways, its all about heating up and cooling down the motor.

If you want a very detailed brake in procedure go to CT Racing's site or more precisely www.ctracing.com/pro-x.htm On page 2 there is a GREAT article with JETTING hints to keep your Two Stroke running TIPTOP. Building your motor shouldn't be imtimidating---just think of it as FUN EDUCATION!!
