KTM engine in a complete Tecate 4 chassis
I have 2 Tecate 4's. One runs great and one is mainly a parts/project quad that I've been thinking of using for a 330 long rod kit. I was looking around on ebay and saw some nice KTM engines for sale like a 520 bike engine w/ a 6 speed tranny.
Give it to me straight. if anyone knows how complicated or a pain in the butt it would be to work that kind of engine into my ready-to-use Tecate 4 chassis, let me know before I dream about it too much. I mean, I'm sure the mounting bolts don't match up but is just a matter of welding mounts onto the frame so I can bolt in the motor??

It wont be real easy, but it would be cool. It should be fairly straight forward if you have some fabricating skills. I do notice that some quads kick start forward, so you may want to get a e-start ktm. the six speed should have one. It would be handy to see a ktm engine and compare how big it is and take a few measurements before buying the engine. But if your skills are up to the challenge it would be cool and it could be made to fit.

I really don't have any fabricating skills. I would need some help. The Kawi kicks backwards so a front kicking KTM engine would be a problem. As far as measuring it first, I guess I'd have to go to a KTM dealer with a tape measure and hope nobody gives me a hard time.
I would definitely need to be helped by a welder or mechanic.

With no welding skills you may want to wait a while unless you have friends with welding/fabricating skills. The ktm kicks backwards so that may be no problem. It wouldnt be easy but definitely could be done. Im thinking of putting a 350X engine in my honda odyssey this fall.
