Banshee Bogging
#1
I'm having a problem with my Banshee bogging pretty bad on its top end. Everytime it hits the top of the powerband it bogs down and loses power. I had this problem when I went down to Glamis for Halloween. I was running a 280 main jet and it was doing it pretty bad. So I changed it to a 300 and it was a little better but not much. Running FMF fatty pipes, 20cc domed coolhead, Boyesen rad valves, Pro-flo w/foam filter, stock carbs, airbox lid removed, boost bottle. I am running stock needles should I change these? My buddy did on his with Toomey's and doesn't have this problem in the dunes. Any help thanx!

put your air box lid back on,if it runs a little better then your running a little lean.the lid will restrict the amount of air which will richen it up.just a simple test to check if its lean.my friends and I run banshees as well,so I know where your coming fromand it does get to be a pain sometimes.a buddy of mine was running almost the same mods with 290 mainsand had his ported and polished and had to go to 320 mains.sounds unreal but its the truth. hope it helps!

Has anyone changed thier needles? What kind did you use? size? I figured it was running lean thats why I went up to the 300s and it still didn't really help any. maybe 310s or something. But I would also like some advice on the needles.

My fiance runs a 96 banshee with toomey pipes, billet head with 21cc domes, ported (intake opened up with slight exhaust port timing increase), no airbox with 2 into 1 filter, boost bottle, and the timing advanced. On the stock carbs running stock needles the main is a 330 and the pilots are 30's. The needle clip is one up from the middle with the stock needles. She had the toomey needles in it but it was way too hard to jet the bottom. Going back to the stock needles solved the problem. Sounds like you are way lean on top as others suggested. With only toomey pipes and needles as the only mod her jetting was a 280main with 25 pilots with the needle in the middle on toomey needles. Hope this helps.

what are the stock pilot jet size? And if I change these and run my clip on my needles up a notch should this help my problem? Getting ready for Glamis on Thanksgiving, I don't want it to be running like crap again like during Halloween.

Since you bought an ADA head and not an Engine Trix head I can't tell you. j/k Used to work for Engine Trix so I am kinda biased. I believe the stock size is 25 but not positive. Try going to a 30 with the clip one up from center and also run a main jet around 320 for starters. changing the pilots and adjusting the needle won't solve your problem. You need to go bigger on the main jet.
