With stock tires,A little quicker would be one more tooth on the back 39 by itself.
A lot quicker is one less tooth in the front 14 by itself.

With 22 inch tires a 14/39 is great.Or billy goat 14/40.All made by sidewinder and are same as trx250r sprokets on rear.

If the 400ex is geared anything like my 350x was then I'd say go up one tooth in the front and you'll still have plenty of bottom end power in the woods and should pick up about 5mph to end based on the 65-68 mph top speed of a stock 400ex. If you want more low end grunt for rock and hill climbing then go down one tooth on the front.

i have put a 36 tooth rear sidewinder sproket on my 400 ex , it gained about 4 mph, i can even tell a bottom end loss with this change, but when driving you can definatley tell that you don't have to shift as soon as stock.

I think you guys need to re-read his post, he is riding trails, hillclimbs, basically he needs low end grunt, not top speed.

Evan,
I would recommend going down one tooth on the front counter-shaft sprocket. This should give you more sprint type acceleration, but you will lose some topend.

trx430ex,
I noticed you have 22's with the sproket size you posted (14/39), when i puchase some new rubber i'm considering 22's, but i notice on the stock skid plates-rear-they don't give you much room for a larger sproket. did you have to get aftermarket plates for the upgrade?
