I currently run Maxima Super M in my Banshee with good results. Does anybody know how Maxima 927 (Castor oil based) performs? Somebody told me it gums up your exhaust. Is that true?

I started out running Castor 927 in my banshee. I then got a cool head, when I took off the stock head there was alot of carbon build up for the short time I had it. I then switched to Super M and have been happy with it. It seems to run alot cleaner now. Castor oils smell good but are meant to be run with leaded gasoline. I would stick with the Super M. Also castor oil doesnt store well when mixed with gas. It seperates from the gas if left to sit for more than a few days. And yes it does gum up the reed and intake.

The bean oils will also gel in cold weather.

In synthetic oil give Amsoil or Quaker State a try. They are both about $18 a gallon.

The real bargain champ and clean burning oil is Phillips 66 Injex at about $8.50 per gallon. I use it in my Polaris 400 and AC snowmobile. Smells like a new basketball!

The castor oils offer better protection but should only be used with leaded gasoline because it only bonds to the lead. I personally use Klotz R50 and have had excellent results.

I used Silkoline Comp 2 (32:1) in my '86 TRX250R for three years without issues. I am using Yamalube 2R (24:1) in my 2000 Banshee. Only 10 weeks with the Banshee.

I also started out with the 927. The only down fall is its color. You have a hard time reading a plug with it. I run klotz r50 now and love it. It burns alot cleaner in my bike. Most of the guys i know that run anything from straight gas to alcohol run klotz products. see what works best for you though.

I run KLOTZ R-50 mixed to 36-1 with a half and half mix of Sonoco 110 and Shell 93 in my CT RACING 310R. I love the stuff and would recommend it to anyone. No nasty odors like some others that I won't mention; smells like what a two stroke SHOULD smell like! Enough said?

Castor oils are typically used on extremely high performance engines -- especially those running alcohol. On a mildly modified engine with a normal rider, castor-based oils will leave massive deposits.

A good rule of thumb is if you are having lots of problems with piston seizure in a high-comp engine, and you've ruled out jetting problems -- try a castor-based oil.

For the rest of us? The synthetics typically offer the best blend of lubrication and cleaning.
