Trying to build a 90 atv
#3
Is this for a racing application? Are you asking about restoring a 90 from the ground up? Background information and detail helps us to help you make better informed decisions and more accurately answer questions.
If this is a true "from the ground up" project then the first thing you will want to do is to decide what you want to do with this ATV. This will determine what components and set up you will want. Another thing to consider is what your budget is. Personally I do a lot of frankenstein 3 wheelers on a very small budget and have a fair amount of quadMX experience so I will try to help you out the best I can. There are a number of very good resources here on the forum that should get you in the right direction.
Good luck and happy building.

Well, I would first suggest you take a look at some of the ready built race 90s that companies like Cobra and Lem make. Take notes on how the frame is designed. You are going to want to have a WIDE, stable frame and axle/a-arms. Then, I would go with a 90cc or similar dirtbike motor because most come with manual transmissions and are a bit more powerful.

I can see this would be a good father/daughter project.
If it were me, the frame would be my biggest concern. You can pretty much build any motor, but if the frame can't take what it puts out, or what you put it through, you're sitting back in the garage.

Well to start out, you should try to find a used trx90 frame and then weld in a gusset kit. Theres a person on ebay who sells 300ex a-arm and shock kits for trx90s. What kind of engine are you planning to use, 2 or 4 stroke.

We took a YZ85 motor and put it in a Blaster chassis. It really was a fairly easy fit, we had to drill out the swing arm bolt hole on the motor and go with a smaller front sprocket because of clearence and mount the radiator. The chassis is maybe a little heavier than the others but the thing handles like a dream.
