Default homeade airbox?

I have a 1993 Suzuki lt230e and the owner before removed the airbox and put an exposed filter on. Id like to be able to ride through a puddle and not have to worry about mud splashing into it. Is there a way I could make my own airbox? Doesn't have to be completely sealed just enough for a splash of water or chunks of mud flying not to get into the filter. I've heard of people using aluminum or a large pvc pipe? And prolly have to rejet it? Thanks for your help. Only reason i want to is because the entire airbx and manifold assembly is hard to find and usually expensive, try to do this for cheap. Thanks

You could probably get away with using a large junction box in place of the original airbox. Just make sure you run a large enough hole for the filter to fit in and have enough air intake to keep ot breathing.
