Twist Throttles
#12
My friend had a 250r with a twist he liked it I didn't. It's something to get used to I guess. I was used to riding my worn out stock 250r when he bugged me to ride his. I had a heck of a lot more power than mine. My arm would kind of lock down and really pour the juice to her. When I came around to roost gravel on my friends standing around, I goosed it, my arm locked, I found myself vertical into the back of another buddy's pickup with one front tire over the closed tailgate and one back tire puncured into the reciever hitch. OUCH ! It cost me about $450 to replace; one tire, grab bar, seat mount, stering stem, a pair pants that I ripped and my pride (until he sold it). All for a 5 min. ride.
So take it easy when you do switch to a twist!

Its just a matter of preference, nobody can tell you if it will work for you, thats for you to try and see if it improves your riding ability or not. For many people its best stick to what you have run, because over the years you develop certain muscle areas, which is different for each throttle type. For example if you are a current or former bike rider, you may prefer the twist throttle due to less fatigue, but if you've always ridden quads with a thumb, a twist throttle may make you more tired and/or slower because you lack the muscle. But this rule is not always true, I know many former and current bike riders that hate a twist throttle on a quad.
Its one of those things where you just have to try it to see how it works for you personally, I or nobody else can tell you how you will like it.
Good Luck,

oregonrider,
Well, you almost invented a new way to load a quad into a truck
.You mentioned twice that your arm locked. I would refer you to my post above re proper riding position. If you had your elbows out and bent, There is no way your arm could have locked. Aside from the thumb vs twist discussion this is the correct way to ride either a quad or a dirt bike because of the increased leverage on the bars that you gain plus preventing your elbows from coming in contact with your torso in hard turns. Not necessary to take my word for it..just check out most of the pro riders on tv or even Supercross.
Anyway, since You didn't mention injuries, I'm happy that the only injuries were to your pride and your wallet
