Rear Break QUESTION!!!!
#1
I have a 99 warrior and I'm always going through break pads! My axle was bent before, I just fixed it today so that's elimanated as far as being the problem! I noticed as I'm putting the break back that the piston inside is pushed out. Shouldn't it be pushed in if anything???? NOW I know If I let some fluid out then I'll be able to push the piston back in...but how can I check if that mechanism is working properly.....can I do a test with the brake off the rotor.

I went through some brake pads fast too. Then I ride in wet and muddy areas so that makes them wear out faster. Do you have a parking brake? How about riding with your foot resting on the brake? These are some things that I have tried to correct. Also, try getting Sintered Brake pads. They last longer.

Have you ever accidently ridden with the parking brake on? I did with my Wolerine, and it actually warped the rotor, not a lot,but enough to always rub on the pads, and wore them out fast, ended up buying a nice carbon steel aftermarket (cheaper than oem) and no more problems.

No! I don't have a parking brake! When I bought the machine they disconnected it! I'm wondering if I have a problem with the caliper itself! When I press on the break the piston comes out but doesn't really go back in, resulting in the brakes being slightly on all the time!
Does anyone know....I have the caliper off right now...can you test it like that off the bracket and off the rotor.....

The caliper is not supposed to go back in. That is why you have to add brake fluid when your brakes get worn down. If you notice your brake fluid is low than that is a good sign to replace your brake pads. I don't know what else to tell you.
