97 Honda Foreman problem
#1
Hello All, I just joined here and just wanted to say that this website is great, being a atv enthusiast, it has alot of good information, I also posted this in the Honda section, I really want to get this running again, I need to ride.
I have a 97 Honda Foreman, this bike has been great so far, until now,
the last time I was riding it, it was running good, I was going down the trail and it just acted like it ran out of gas, came to a stop, got it running again and managed to get back to the truck, it will run at idle but as soon as you give it gas it wants to die, no it's not the choke, I've tried that, in fact it seems to run better with it on, but it still won't go full throttle. I checked all the fuses, purged the spark arrestor, changed the spark plug and nothing....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
any help is appreciated

Empty and clean the tank. Check the carb float bowl. The foremans have a venturi style choke which means that when the choke is on or "open" more raw fuel goes to the engine. Have you drowned the bike? If so the could be water somewhere in the system or rust from water causeing some sort of blockage between the carb and the engine. Since you said the machine runs better with the choke on it is probably not the tank. I'd say concentrate on the carb (the tank is just another added step to possibly correct the problem because if rust is blocking the system it could have come from the tank). It could range from float bowl, floats, float bowl valve, choke valve, system pressure, jetting, or even more.
Hope this puts you on your way to getting everything working. I hate to have my quad out of commision.
