I installed the HL Performance Kit(pipe,jet kit,k&n)on my 99 450S. It seemed to me to be running stronger and quicker. Well one of my friends has one just like mine minus the kit. He out run me in a "drag race" every time yesterday. Start off in 2nd run until we shift into 5th then stop. I rode his thinking it was a weight difference and the same happened. his bike out run mine. The only thing I did first was take mine in for the "Honda Service" then installed the kit. Before he would get me by just a little because I weighed(past tense)100lbs more, now it seems to be worse....What is going on here ? Is something not setup correctly. I should be taking him by what he getting me !!

 

What does reading your plug tell you?

Even if you're set up correctly, the mods you've made may only enhance the top end; your drag races may not be long enought for your "advantage" to come into play . . .

The plug is black. I'm getting another plug today to see what happens. Even top end he still takes me worse than when I was stock. I was under the impression that the mods I made should give me bottom to mid range torque and a better throttle response ?

 

 

Sounds too rich to me, I would find out what the stock jet was, and what they put in it. If they went up like 3-4 sizes with just a pipe and a K&N your definatly rich...

If your plug is reading black your running way too rich. No wonder why your getting beat. Have someone set up your jetting and I bet you'll walk all over him day and night.
