Default 89 lt 250 toe in adjustment

Can anyone tell me the correct way to set toe in on my quad? I would appreciate any help, so far 3/8" toe in (sitting level ) dosn't seam to feel right on the trail. I have found the hard way that it changes through wheel travel (cant adjust with tires off the ground) Should I fill the tank and sit on it for correct ride height? The bike gets used x-country with 23" ITP XCT's any comments on these tires I like them to clear the trail trash. I also run front sand tires once a year at the Oregon dunes.
