i have an 01 Sportsman 500 HO
1. How do i find the model number, there are many versions: A01CH50AE? A01CH50AA? A01CH50AB? A01CH50AK?

2. Just replaced the battery and and it DOES NOT start.
(Pull method starts - But just now broke the recoil plastic part)
How do i start this thing?
Key In, On Start??

Welcome! For a couple years the start button was an emergency kill/start combination switch. Have the red switch in the middle and push up to start.The different model #'s were mainly because of colors and options. Your 17 digit vin# is etched into the frame just behind the left front a-arm(as you are sitting on the machine) Type your vin# here and should give the info you need. http://www.purepolaris.com/en-us/Ran...earch-VIN.aspx

All that "A01CH50AE? A01CH50AA? A01CH50AB? A01CH50AK" crap is color of plastic or maybe a hunter edition with a few options like hand warmers or winch.

When ordering parts any 2001 500 Sportsman will do,you just need the year. Is the electric start not working or like mentioned the starter button is strange.

When I bough mine it took me awhile to figure out how the start button worked. LOL

 

Yeah kind of felt stupid for a bit....

But when i press the switch up, i have to hold it up and jiggle it for it to start. like a bad connection, and have to jiggle it again for the odometer, and headlights to work. THis is the RED SWITCH.

I am about to order a new switch { 4010262 SWITCH-HANDLEBAR,H/L/O,REV/OR $83.30 }
But before i do that do you guys know of any trick, or if i need to take mine apart and play with the red switch and use grease or something?

Also, my AWD does not work and could it be related?

 

The speedo has to work for the awd to work. It was a stupit idea polaris had to make the $300 speedo part of the awd system but there is a by pass trick to get around it.My 1999 polaris explorer will not go into 4 wheel - FixYa

I will try the switch and make sure the speedo works and see if the awd works as well.
