Moisture for one thing looks like the problem,BUT if you still have the Ducati ignition system you'll have to install the updated #2202602 Kokusan kit anyway as the Ducati ignition would fail and parts are no longer available. Don't buy used Ducati parts on Ebay! They will fail. The kit is about $450 includes the stator, flywheel, separate cdi and coil(instead of a combo cdi/coil pack) regulator/rectifier,jumper wires and instructions. OPT

So I have seen you talk about this new kit a bunch, how hard is it to install? And where would the moisture be coming from? It seems like I should handle that problem before installing the kit.

The cover has a rubber seal around the inner part that's supposed to stop water, but doesn't always. If the seal looks worn, deformed, just order a new one and you can try a little rtv around the outer edge of the engine case to see if that helps. The ignition kit is pretty straight forward per the instructions, and as you already have the flywheel off, that's the hardest part! This link shows the kit and seal. You can check other places on a better price on the ignition kit. Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse
