Magnum rear differential problems
#12
No I believe I'm the second. Had bought it in '06 with 8000 km on it. He definitely road it hard. My only atv ever, havent abused it much. Has been really good to me. Only thing was a left front axle and a yoke a few years back. Engines strong might have to do some minor work on carb and brakes now that I have everything apart. And yes expensive job. About 800 when done. That's not including my labour to get the rear end out and back in though.

Fluid amount
I have a 1999 Magnum. Bought used late 2013 The manual does not list maintenance spec for the rear diff, just the front. I think the manual is "generic" for all types of models and the Magnum just doesn't get its due.
Any way I have changed all the fluids and have a question on how much to put in. I found a reference for 10 0z on a chart online and it states 10 oz is the initial fill but to check manual for actual amount. 10 oz does not come to the bottom of the threads. Should it go to the bottom of the threads? I have 10 oz in now
The reason I ask is that the transmission says to use 13.5 oz from the chart but the manual says to fill to bottom of threads, which is much more than 13.5 oz.
Thank you,
Kevin

Does get confusing on a lot of manuals. Just fill to the bottom of the fill threads in most applications with exception of certain years of Sportsman 700 rear diffs. Manual call for 5 ounces and to check fluid level you were supposed to bend a piece of wire at a certain length to see if fluid touches! On these I just drained and filled back with 5 ounces. http://www.cyclepartswarehouse.com/f...005&fveh=11297
