Question 07 Sportsman 500 EFI X2 don't start

Hey!

I'm following the forum in the last couple of months, since decembre to be more specific, when I buy my polaris.

And now I need your help!

My 07 sportsman a week ago, starts failing run about half a mile, when I stop, the engine dies, since then never start again, at first's tries it starts to run, but no sucess... Run the diagnostic test, codes were 42, 22, 45, 47, 55.

I check the battery, main ground on the frame, (moved to another point and tight with bolt/nut), also check for broken cables on the sensors, but nothing!

Today run diagnostic again and now is showing the 42, 41, 22, 45, 47, 51, 55 codes! more codes...
which are short to ground and low voltage. engine turns but w'ont start!

Any ideas? may it be the PDM?

thanks in advance for any help

Look at the first"sticky" post above this section on efi problems on 700/800 machines. Applies to all model efi atvs. Codes are not always accurate, some may be right, others are bogus. Main problem areas are in the thin wiring harness and connectors from the tps and tbap(map) sensor not the sensors themselves. Look for any abrasions or nicked wires that may be shorting to ground along with any soft feeling wires leading from the sensors to the main harness. Manuals state wiring problems are 80% of the problems on efi machines. You can't rule out a pdm problem, but I'd start with checking the wiring first from the sensors, crank position sensor wiring running under the throttle body for any cuts that could be shorting to ground or just broken internally. I replaced a lot of Polaris sensor harness kits and connectors that didn't hold up.If this is your problem the sticky post shows a link to a stronger harness kit for either the tps or map sensor.Only The Best
Plus if you don't have a manual here's a pdf for 5 bucks that may help.2007 Polaris Sportsman X2 500 EFI Service Manual PDF Download

thanks "old polaris tech",

I read the post you mentioned and the service manual! but i will read it again, it may escape me something.

I check continuity from sensors connectors to ECU connector, and from CPS to ECU, and it has continuity, how ever i don't look if the resistence in the wires is the same in all of them with same section, i will look for that!

Is there any "simple" way of see if the PDM ok?

Since this post is related to the sitck about EFI problems, and it may help some one else, you can join the two!

thanks

Some manuals have a pdm test in the trouble shooting guide, some don't. Think what Polaris as many manufacturers are doing is wanting you have it hooked up to diagnostics at the dealer. Efi problems can be frustrating, even more so than the old simple carb models.

Agree with you, now days many manufacturers/dealers, do every thing to get their hands in our pockets... but going to the dealer for a check will be the last thing...

Well i re-checked all the wires/connectors, can't find any broken !

Tested the sensors acording to service manual, and;

- IAT sensor resistence don't have any value!0,00ohms! is that enough for engine don't start?

- TPS sensor gives values a bit diferentes, the ones mentioned in service manual!, but temp also less then the 20º mentioned...

- MAP can´t not test

- IAC sensor, ok

Any ideas!?

Probably going to the dealer will be next step, since i don't have tools to do more tests and don't now what to do...

Have it put on Digital Wrench. Better than chasing your tail on this and throwing parts at it along with your time spent already. Usually they can find the problem fairly quick in most cases. Efi systems are just hard to check with only meters and test lights.

Hi,

Finally it runs again!

almost 2 months later, after testing and retesting the sensors, looking for damaged wires, sending the ecu to a expert for anylise, the problem is finally solved! it was the ignition switch!

Glad you found the problem, but that's where the Digital Wrench software would have saved all the frustration for a 1 hr labor charge.Sometimes dealers can help without stealing your wallet
