Usually leaks come from the weep hole between the water pump seal and the oil seal. Best if the cover is remove and then you can just knock both the leaking water pump seal and oil seal out and install new ones without damaging the oil pump/water pump shaft. Others can give you shorts cuts on seal water pump seal replacement,BUT you stand a chance of damaging the shaft, then you have bigger problems!Plus the oil seal installs from the back! Flywheel and stator has to be removed and moved out of the way. Look over this manual as it shows the same thing on seal replacement. If I could have done it easier believe me I would have. But I don't like having to tear into engines when I've damaged something else!Plus here's the cover and oil seal.#9 and 10. ok so basically remove the water pump cover then the flywheel cover and the fly wheel, then i should be able to pull that metal piece behind the fly wheel and remove the water pump. put in new seals/ gaskets and put back together and riding soon after. i was reading that i need a special tool to remove the water pump is that correct?

That special tool is for the 425 and 500 engine water pump seals. The 700 gear/stator case cover needs to be pulled and oil seal popped out,w/pump seal knocked out. Oil seal just sets in from the rear,w/pump seal is installed with the seal installer tool OR a large socket. Then the cover is replaced.Read chapter 3 (engine) of the manual link I posted. Makes the job a lot simpler and easier to understand if you do.
