I found a problem my input ignition voltage to the head is reading about 12.5 volts machine running the battery voltage wire at the head is at 14.4 .I jumped in some battery voltage to the ignition voltage wire to see if that would turn the light out but no luck .Do you happen to know where in the harness the ignition red/white splices are I would like to do some voltage checks there

Red/white is the most common wire through out the harness. You should be showing this 14.4 volts that is coming from the charging system as this is one of the functions of the speedo to display that the charging system is operating properly. If you still feel it's a wiring problem and not the speedo itself there are several junction blocks that the red/white wires tie into and branch out,but it involves a lot of digging through the harness.

I was wondering if you ever found out what was causing this. I have a Sportsman 800
that has the same issue. Good battery, charging at 14.3 but battery light flashing and diagnostic mode on the speedo cluster shows 3-3.5 volts key on or engine running. I looked at the schematic and there is no dedicated wire to the speedo that controls that light. It makes me think the speedo is bad because I have battery voltage at the red wire and red/white wire going into the speedo. Thanks
