2000 Polaris Sportsman 500 4x4- Battery draining with winch/snowplow use..
#11
Yep a winch takes a lot of battery when using it regularly with lights on etc. I have the same issue with my UTV, it sets in a barn with no heat and on these really cold nights about 10 here the extra power for starting, the head lights/brake lights and winch draw the battery down after an 3/4 hour or so of plowing. It still works but really slows down, I started using a small battery tender on these real cold nights so it doesn't take so much out of the battery getting it started and now I can get a good solid hour or more before it starts to drop off. When I replace the battery (2 yrs old) I am going to find a little bigger one.

Someone has done some rigging on this atv. Looks like some sort of resistor has been added.Heated grips or something else? Before you drill holes in the storage compartment as some have to to add batteries or strap one on the rear rack, you might check out the improvements that have been made on the oem style regulators. Sill have room to mount at the same location and they charge at lower rpms where the older ones didn't. https://www.rmstator.com/en_ww/produ...7-2002-rm30t12
