What model? If it's not showing speed or mileage,it may just be a hall effect sensor on the front strut that's out.If the speedo is dead,the yes many had the awd ground circuit go through the speedo and you would loose awd. You can bypass the speedo by jumping the brown/white wire(awd ground) to a common brown(ground) in the speedo harness or frame ground and you should be able to at least have awd. Some have repaired their speedos.
