Speedo Cutting Out

I've got an '02 Sportsman 400 and I was riding on Saturday, when my speedometer stared acting up. The needle went all the way around to the odometor button, and the digital display went blank. It did this three times Saturday. It works fine when this isn't going on. Then I didn't ride again until this morning, and it continued to act up. I just installed a winch on the wheeler last week, the first time I rode with the winch installed everything was fine, but since it hasn't. I don't see why this would be a problem, but then I'm not an electrition. Anyone have any idea what would be causing this problem? Thanks for any input.

When it does that, does your hourmeter continue to function properly and does your awd light by the yellow 4wd button stay on (when in 4wd)? If so, it is most likely the wheel speed sensor located on the right front brake caliper. I have replaced the one on my 01 HO twice. If the hourmeter and the awd stop functioning when it acts up, it may actually the speedometer unit itself.

My hourmeter/odometer/trip odometer goes blank, and the needle jumps all over hell. Are you saying that a malfunctioning speedo will play hell with the 4x4 also? I took it for a spin today, and it didn't act up once. So I'm not sure what to make of this. Anyone else have any ideas?
