Default starter rust

Broke down in the bush this weekend. my starter would not engage so I had to pull start bike. After our third stop for refreshments I pulled the cord and it would not retract. Not a good sign. We ended up takeing the whole thing apart only to find a rust filled starter and flywheel Anyway 3 hours later we ended up getting it going with some rope and alot of help from my buds. I have religously kept my bike serviced and have drained this area before . The starter still wants to work If I take it apart and sparkle it up what can I use for a lubricant in the housing so this will not happen again?
Still love my Remington

Default starter rust

Polaris makes a special stuff just for that. I believe it is called 'starter grease' or something like that. It is a special waterproof grease for use in the starter bendix and recoil ratchets.

I was told by a starter rebuilder, that you can spray WD40 into the starter drain,I have done it and it seems to work fine .
