2ooo Scrambler 400 2x4...I went out for a short romp the other day and when I pulled back in the driveway and used the brake the bike stalled. I noticed that when stopped the bike creeps forward. Bike has about 30 to 40 hours on it since new (bought new from dealer in 2002). Trans fluid in great shape cause I changed it earlier in season...belt looks good but I have'nt measured it. Machine is'nt really abused. 1st 4-wheeler i've owned and the auto tranny is new stuff to me. Bike seems fine in every other situation except stopped, or should I say staying stopped! What bothers me most is the extreme harsh shifting from forward to reverse. Forget neutral cause it shifts too hard to hit that detent. Anybody's knowledge or experience would be cool. The dealer is 40 miles away. help

if it is idleing to fast that will cause it to creep forward, since its your first bike you probably don't know what proper idle sounds like, to adjust idle you get the bike warmed up, lock the brake and put it in gear, then adjust the screw on the bottom of carb till it doesn't seam to want to creep.

Thanks for input but I dont believe thats it. I'll give it a try anyhoo. When it is in neutral the idle seems fine. Is the polaris known for the need of idle adjustment, even when it has'nt been fiddled with? Thanks for the quick come-back dude

Yes, Polaris machines are known for the idle speeding up after break-in. I had to slow down the idle on my Xplorer 3 times since it was new (same basic engine).
I would try turning down the idle until it seems ready to stall, and see what happens. The idle speed comes up very gradually, so many people don't really notice it.

It could either be the idle or the clutch. Mostlikely it could be the clutch. If it creeps then the clutch needs adjusting or a shim added. Did you just have work done to it? Did it always do this since new? It could also have a bad spot on the belt that is making it creep.
