Gas Mileage on 04 sp700 WONDERFULL!!!
Hi all !
I was a little worried when I was thinking about buying the 700 because of everything i heard about the POOR MPG's.
Will on the first thank I got 67 miles before hitting reserve.
I now have about 350 miles on the bike and today when I hit reserve, I had 70.3 miles on that tank of gas before reserve !!!!!!!!!! that includes lots of idling time as will.
now, as with first tank of gas, I did all kinds and types of riding.
I live at about 15' above sea level, but we have lots of high hills as will.
the bike is stock.
regular gas.
this is the same gas mileage that I had with both my 2002, and 2003 500H0's.
Really, I swear.
I can't believe it !!!
but I'm sure happy

well on my '03 SP 600 I get about 47 miles with reserve.......i dont know how you guys figure so much MPG........Oh well more fuel more power.........you guys must ride at higher speeds so the machine is under momentum and dont require very much fuel to keep it going......where i ride 15 mph in the field all the time......oh well

I have a 03 600 with about 125 miles on it and after every ride I fill it up all the way to the top and it has been averaging taking right at 3 gals to ride anywhere between 40 to 43 miles which comes out to about 14 miles per gallon, not counting idleing time, which should come out to about 66.5 on a full tank but that's regular and reserve together. I ride in all different types of terrain, rocks, hills, mud and all using low gear in the rock climbing and slow riding. The 600 should get better mileage than the 700 because of the smaller displacement and smaller bore and stroke but, maybe not. Maybe after a few more miles it will break-in more and get better.

I don't worry about gas mileage, just keep a 5 gallon can of gas handy when I go to ride. You can't put a price on having fun. I've noticed my 700 gas mileage varies a lot depending on riding conditions. Riding in the creek bottoms in low range, it isn't too good, but on the gravel roads cruising around 30-45mph in hi range it isn't so bad. I seem to average 10-12 mpg.

Oh yeah, I don't worry about the gas mileage as far as the cost of the gas, the only thing that concerns me, is that at times we go on rides that might be as many as 50 to 60 mile loops, and I just want to be sure that I can make those, without carring extra gas along. I don't like carrying extra gas, with me I guess knowing that the right situation could set off an explosion, if you know what I mean. If i ride where we make short loops and go back to the truck then that's fine, I can refuel then, but that's rarely the case, it's usually the gone all day long loops, that we like to ride. But with the 4.75 gallon tank that's a lot of gas anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem, but that is on the outer edge of the limit. If I ever do run out, I guess that I will just have to get used to carrying extra gas!
