I changed to a 40 tooth rear spocket. I did this so I would be able to get out of the hole better when drag racing. If I would have done it in the front, I would have had to go down to an 11. I really didn't want to go that small. Last time I was at the dunes my chain was really loose. I did not shoot out of the hole as fast and I had to make it up at the half mark.
But, my current chain is too short. I need two more links. Of course but the time I realized this everything was closed so I will have to get it Monday.

Rhonda, actually most of us performance 400 folks go to a smaller gearing. As long as you have a few mods to open up the hp band a bit, the PVT normally will do the work for you. Sometimes you can go a bit too steep, and have just a slight bog off the line, but when things catch up....you better be hangin' on. You go to Silver Lake as I remember. Been there yet this year? I can't wait to get there.

I was at Silver Lake three weeks ago and could not get a good jump out of the hole. I am going back in a week (30th -3rd.) I want to try out my new sand tires and my new sprocket set up. I am really new to all of this so I am learning as I go. I should have mentioned that I have a 5 1/4" swingarm and I ordered some larger sand tires. I am not so much worried about top end. I just want hill climbing power and to launch better.
Just want to be able to keep up with that banshee that was beating me into the ground.
