Help!!! Scrambler clutches????
#1
I have a 2001 Scrambler 500. Supertrapp pipe/silencer, and it has a Hot Seat Performance clutch kit on the primary clutch. I had the dealer install it, becuase i didn't want to mess up the factory warranty. Good thing because i toasted the transmission/gear box. Broke the case in half. But, before I did that, the bike started to act funny. It started acting like it was amanual transmission when I let off the gas. It would get to speed fine, but would "compression brake" when i tried to coast. When you let all the way off the gas it should idle down and just coast. But now the motor is staying "hooked up" and if i hit the gas again, it revs up super high before the transmission will engage and give me any power. Very strange for an automatic transmission. It burns belts way too fast and acts like the clutch just works when it wants and disengages when it wants. I've called 3 Polaris dealers, no help at all. (BIG SURPRISE) And I called Hot Seat, nothing. Any ideas from you guys, the real riders and mechanics???????????????

Hey Bubba..... Good call. I called Hot Seat and posted on the forum, then right after just for craps and giggles, pulled the 2ndary clutch apart. The buttons were GONE, the helix was eating the screws, and had done quite a number on the helix, too. So, I called Hot Seat and got some stuff on the way. I hope that's all for now. For quite a while, really. I've had alot of problems w/ this machine, but I Do love it. I ride it real hard, so stuff is gonna break. Thanks for the help. Got any opinions on running a 700 belt on this Scrambler. The dealer said to do it for sure. Hmmmm......

I have a personal opinion about belts. I run the stock replacement belt on everything except highly modded machines. Even had a buddy running the stock belt on an alky race mod. Better belt = less life on the clutches for the most part. Glad you got it figured out. Seemed that's all it could really be. It should be a different bike once you get it going again.Bubba

I run the 700 belt and haven't had any problems. I BELIEVE the new belts are spliceless. They weren't when I got a new belt, just the 700 belt was, otherwise I would have gotten a stock replacement. I noticed that the spliceless belt is a lot stronger and hasn't slip yet, even after getting it wet. But like Bubba, said, its all a matter of personal preference. Some like others don't . You decide
