hey polaris engineers!!!!!!
would you please offer the magnaum (specifically mag500)series with a manual tranny?!?!?!?! i just don't trust the PTV no matter how well they are sealed from the elements. Mr. Murphy and his law like to bit me in the rectum all the time.

would anyone else be interested in this? heck i'd consider trading my rancher in on it

Cartman308,

Don't rule out the PVT until you've tried it. I almost did. My extensive snowmobile experience made me look twice and it was sure worth it. It is awesome.

Yes, you can get the belt wet but you have to try really, really hard. Our group of 4 Sportsman's hasn't done it yet. If you do, it delays you for about 30 seconds while the belt self dries. No big deal, no harn done. If you really wanted a submarine, but bought an ATV, you can snorkel the air intake to protect it more. In 99.8% of the cases I would say this is not required.

My snowmobiles will ingest powder snow and wet the belt if I am diving hard into the drifts. Minor delay for drying and I am on my way again.

I agree, Polaris could, and should, offer more models in a standard. Just wanted to say don't rule out the PVT because of the fear mongering you read about here. If both machines are available, my Four-Trax will sit idle while the Sportsman with the PVT and IRS goes rid'in.

Cartman,

Ride an automatic machine for a week and you will know why Polaris sales are screaming. All of us start from the mindset of shifting. Those of us with time in on the trails on these machines all like the automatic better.

Worrying so much about a slipping belt is like worrying about getting your socks wet. It happens, but it's a minor nuisance.

I gotta say.. I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A MAGNUM 500 MANUAL SHIFT.!!!....
THat would be cool...
On a side note.. I looked at the Artic Cat 500 Auto today.. I AM IMPRESSED!!.. The idea of having a more rigid belt case and 500cc is nice... I wonder if Polarises and Artic Kittys can get along together on the same trailer...??? Or do you have to seperate them?

it's all about personal preferance. i have ridden a grizzly a few times and just don't care for the autos. i perfer shifting. no matter what you say the belt CAN slip. and the WILL eventually slip. i'll stick to manual shifters as long as i'm young

Not saying I would buy one but a manual shift Magnum would be a great offer as well as maybe a Sportsman. I think they should offer a few more standard models.

polaris will have to make a manual sportsman before I will trade. I don't want any current polaris, but if they made a manual sportsman, I would prefer it over the highly publicized Rubicon in a heartbeat. I don't care for the automatic transmission, even if they never slipped belts or broke. Therefore the honda transmission, while a neat concept, is nothing impressive to me. I would rather have the suspension and ground clearance of the sportsman- once again, if it had a manual transmission.

Somebody write some letters!
