Trailblazer carb or clutch? Suggestions?
#1
I put a HSP pipe on my quad and rode it for the first time recently. I rejetted the carb to a 160 main. I noticed a huge loss of power at slow speeds. I hardly have enough power to drive up my ramps into my truck. It takes forever to get it going about 10-15 mph, where the power loss ends, and then it accelerates much better than with the stock pipe. I don't have a clutch kit yet, but I still expected better low end power than what I am gettting. I do have a white primary clutch spring that was installed before the pipe. Any suggestions? Am I too rich? Plug checks looked good. I may be a little rich, but no more than when it was stock. Do I really need the clutch kit this soon?

Usually you will notice a power loss on the top end if it is to rich. You may have lost power on the bottom end because your clutch is not tuned to the powerband of the pipe. A clutch kit will match the power band and give you much better take off.

Also your main seems to be a little big. I am running a 170 main and also have alot more mods. Usually with just a pipe mod a 140-145 main is just right. 150-160 would be ok for the winter months just to make sure you dont run lean. You dont absolutley need a clutch kit with the pipe but hotseat claims 7hp gain with the clutch kit reccomended..

I thought I might have been a little on the rich side as well, but on another one of my posts some one suggested the 160 because they toasted their motor with the HSP recommended 150 main at the same elevation as me (0-3000 ft). I may try the 150 and 140 to see if it makes a difference. What advantage does the helix have in the clutch kit? I am thinking about just going with springs and weights like the standard hpd kits, I've already got the spec's of the hsp kit.
2manytoys, I was checking out the parts lists of the tb to see why my main is so close to yours and I noticed in 2001 and 2002 the stock main was a 110. I realize you have a 2000 machine, but why is it different those two years? Anyone know?
