Missing Starter Part?
I had a guy fix my 94 Polaris Sport 400. He put a new head on since it was cracked. Now the starter went out. Just a click click. Well I took out the starter and oiled it all up and now it works. I put it all back in and I noticed that when it was in, looking in from the right side, with the pull start cover off, that there was nothing for the gear to hit the flywheel. Is it possible that he forgot to put it on? All the starter does now is spin because there is nothing there to even come close to make contact with. Here is the pic.

Missing Starter Part?
Nope, document not found. Anyway.. Here is what your complete starter should look like. The reason the gears don't appear to touch is because the gears will not come out and hit the flywheel until the start button is pressed and the electric impulse makes the gears come out and touch the flywheel until you let go of the start button. You should be able to easily pull the small gear part of the starter out, it acts like a spring and should go back and forth freely, if not than your pinion is froze and you will have to either replace or repair it.
