Default throttle adjustment

I'm hoping someone can help me out with the correct adjustment of the throttle cable. Is there a specific way. I've got a 500ho and it was running poorly. I adjusted the throttle cable (adj. along handlebar) so it would engage the clutch and then backed it off a hair. Runs great , except when I go in reverse, it will kill the engine when I give it throttle. HELP.

Default throttle adjustment

I think you are talking about adjusting the E.T.C switch to get the freeplay out of the thumb throttle, and this will also help if you have a back firing problem. You will need to re-set the idle speed with the idle screw under the carb after making these adjustments.
