SP 500 belt slips
#1
I have been riding with a friend who has a four year old KAW 400 ..I have a 2002 SP 500...and in our trips he never shifts down into low...but i have to..when the trail gets real rough and i am going slow..I give it the gas but it's doesn't move..so the belt must be slipping ..I doesn't burn or smoke...I shift to low and no problem...maybe i should have the belt adjusted ?? I just can understand why the KAW never needs to be shifted he's going through the same stuff i am ???

I've owned both.
The 400 Kawie is very low geared. It would only run 47mph on GPS.
The 500 SP would run 64mph.
Put a blue with green stripe spring in front clutch. Also check belt and adjust!
This will give you more low end power. Then put a stiffer rear clutch spring in(all blue?)
This will keep the 500 in low gear longer before upshift.
