Default Sprocket Change - Scrambler 500 4x4

Is it ok to change the rear sprocket sizes on the Scrambler 4x4. Being that the front hubs only engage when the back tires slip, I don't think the front tires can ever engage on hard surfaces? Has anyone had problems with this?

I do not think that the scrambler transfer case works like that. When you put it in 4WD, its always in 4WD.

Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. When you have the switch on, and the back tires are spinning 20 percent faster than the front, it locks the front wheels. When the the 20 percent is not there, there is no four wheel drive. You NEVER want to hit that 4 wheel drive switch when the rears are spinning. You'll be picking up parts.

On about '99 and newer Polaris 4x4s, the hubs will not engauge if your engine is revving over 3000 RPM. This prevents you from spinning the rear wheels and turning the 4x4 on and tearing out the drive shafts. You can see this work by riding at a good speed and moving the 4x4 switch to ON. The AWD light won't come on until engine RPMs drop low enough.
