2-stroke vs. 4-stroke
#1
I was just wondering why every one I talk to says that 2-strokes require more maintenance than 4-strokes. I have also heard that 4-strokes last a lot longer. I'm still new to this so please excuse my ignorance. The reason why I am asking is because I am about to buy either a scrambler 500 or 400. I just don't know which one to get. Thanks ofr any replies and help.

Don't know how much this will help you, but check this link out. You can find just about anything you need to know about 2 strokes here. www.macdizzy.com/2stroke.htm

2-strokes will last as long as fourstrokes if you take care of them people that have 2 strokes tend to race them and it doesn't matter if its a 2-stroke or 4- stroke if you race it you will have to rebuild it. if you get a two stroke atv and you recreational ride and not race you will be just fine if you intend to race with it it will not last you as long as you would like it to. there is nothing wrong with a two stroke just look at your chainsaw, weedeater, blower, all two strokes. four strokes are fine two but they do not have the power of the 2-stroke. go to www.atv.online to see how a two stroke motor works
under 2-stroke technology.
under 2-stroke technology.

Being I have one of each, here's my thoughts. The 2 stroke has no engine oil to change, the 4 stroke does. I'd say that the 2 stoke is less maintenance. The 2 stoke is noisier. Everything else maintenance wise will be the same. Last longer? I don't know yet.

Take a look at in these forums from about a week ago. You should find a post stating the difference between the two Scramblers. I own the 400 myself and am very pleased so far. The post is very informative as to the differences in performance, speed, power, etc...
Hope this helps!
