Default New 500 HO over heating ??

I took my 1999 SP 500 to have outer tie rods replaced and stearing tighten, I flipped it last year and it drove the stearing shaft in, now there is about 2 inch vertical play in it. Don't have time to work on it myself.
While i was at the atv place i ran into a friend that had bought a 03 SP 500 HO w/winch. He said it runs good other than it over heats.
When he first cranks it up and let it idel for 15 minutes the fan comes on and off and it doesn't over heat, but once he starts riding it in about 20 minutes into the ride it over heats. He gets a over heat display warnning but the fan doesn't come on. This was his third time in and they find nothing wrong with it. Once they said they found a air bubble trapped and that it was ok, but that didn't fix it.
Has anyone had this problem?
I told him it sounds like a lose electrical connection, in that when he starts ridding the fan circuit losses connection, because of a lose wire.
Any inputs on this????
