Stalling 400
#1
I have a 400 2x4 Scrambler that i bought a month ago. On yesterdays ride it ran a little choppy at low speed. Changed the plug. Ran a bit better and then just stalled. Cranks over well and is getting spark. Started for a moment but would not move forward in gear. Long way in from the woods! I think it may be a fuel filter but not sure. manual says only Polaris should change it. Without much experience but really have learned alot from this forum and appreciate any help.

There are a lot of guys and gals here who can give you good advice, but I'll throw in my .02 now. If it's under warranty, don't do anything to the bike that could cause it to be considered out of warranty. Does it start at all? And does it idle ok? Did it JUST started running "choppy" yesterday or has it been like that? Does it start up fine and bog and die out when you try to get it to move forward? I know that this may sound crazy, but here are a few things to try. First check the color of your plug. Is it light brown ? (if so good) Turn the fuel **** to the reserve position and see if that helps out. Mine got clogged up at the fuel dial switch and until I took it apart and cleaned it out, I could only run it if I had it in the reserve position. Take the fuel hose off of the carb and see if it's getting fuel. If not, your filter may need to be replaced or a fuel line may be clogged up. Check ALLconnections under the hood in the front, especially the yellow/red striped wires to make sure they aren't corroted like mine were which caused mine to bog when I tried to get it to go forward. If you push the override button and hit the throttle and it moves forward ok, then you most likely have a corroted wire. On the other hand it could be a carb problem. If it's not in warranty, you can remove the carb and clean it out with carb cleaner and a can of compressed air. Ckeck all of the hoses comming off the carb to make sure that they aren't pinched either. Check and make sure the vent line off the tank isn't pinched either. If it isn't under warranty and you are somewhat mechanically inclined, then do yourself a favor and invest in a service manual. That alone will save you hundreds(about $30+- from dealer). If you need a parts diagram, I can email you one in pdf format(acrobat) or you can get one from partsland.com. At least this way if you don't have a service amnual, you can at least see the parts of the carb and the loction of the jets. I hope this didn't sound too confusing and as I said, there are tons of people here who can help out.

Thanks for the post. The scrambler is a 2000 model, K&N filter, Hi-perf carb with jet kit and V force reeds (forget the name of the carb at the moment). Ran great until this little setback. My little girl was riding and just kind of lugging around on it when it quit. i figured she had just fouled the plug because of it. Wouldn't start for a bit and then did but stalled on take off and wouldn't start afterwards. I will try to chase it down today. i have been running 36/1 fuel mix but may switch back to the injector. guy before me had it off somehow (Any ideas?). I have to admit it has been so much fun to ride that I haven't really gotten way into the mechanics. I appreciate your input, i will follow it .
